What do you look for when booking a hotel for a leisure or business trip to Dublin? One of the first considerations, after price, is usually the location. You’ll want a Dublin hotel that is central, within walking distance of the city centre and all of the attractions. If it is not within walking distance, you want to make sure that there is a reliable public transport system nearby so you’re not spending your time waiting around. Ashling Hotel is a 4-star hotel in Dublin and one of the best-located hotels in the city. We’re within walking distance of all major attractions and have numerous forms of public transportation on our doorstep. Book your stay on our website and explore the city at your leisure.
Walking
Dublin is a very walkable city and if you’re able, we always recommend enjoying a stroll around the streets, roads and lanes of Dublin finding hidden gems. Ashling Hotel Dublin is located on the edge of the city centre, between the hustle and bustle of shops and museums and the peace & quiet of the beautiful Phoenix Park. Walking tours are popular in Dublin and will take you to see all of the main sights in the city in a couple of hours while telling you stories of buildings and battles along the way.
Leap Cards are a quick and easy payment method for public transport in Dublin without using cash. Buy a card in a local shop, top it up as you go and use it on any of the local public transport systems like buses, DART and Luas. Download the Leap Top-Up app on Apple or Android phones to top up on the go.
DART
The DART is Dublin’s intercity train service. It’s ideal for exploring the outskirts of the city like the suburb of Drumcondra where you’ll find Croke Park, or the Dublin coastline which is absolutely worth a visit. There are three major stations in Dublin City to get you where you need to go fast. The closest to Ashling Hotel Dublin is Tara Street Station, located on Tara Street in the city. You can buy tickets before you board at machines by the station or use your Leap Card to tag off and on.
Dublin Bus
Dublin Bus is one of the most prevalent forms of transport in Dublin. There are dozens of bus routes crossing the city with quick journey times and dedicated bus lanes. You are subject to traffic when you take the bus so try to avoid rush hour. Bus routes and suggested journey times are available on the free TFI Live app. You pay for the bus on board by Leap Card or by cash but please note they take coins only so be prepared. Remember to put your hand out to hail the bus as it approaches the stop, or it might not!
Luas
Luas is Dublin’s light rail system and acts as an above-ground tram following red and green routes across the city. Ashling Hotel Dublin is located by the museum stop on the red route and it’s very easy to hop on and off. You buy tickets at machines at the stop and it follows a set route from Tallaght – a south side suburb – to The Point Village – home of the popular Three Arena. The Green Line will take you further South to Dundrum Town Centre and beyond.
Rental Bikes
There are a couple of bike rental services in Dublin the most popular being Dublin. There are stations at set locations around the city where you can pick up a bike and leave it at the station nearest where you want to go. Bleeper bikes offer a bit more freedom in that there are no stations and bikes can be secured anywhere in the city. Find out more about pricing and subscriptions on their websites.
Taxi
Taxis are reliable but expensive in Dublin and there are almost always alternatives to get to where you need to be. Use online booking tools like FreeNow to preorder taxis or if you see a branded taxi with its roof light on, you can hail it by putting your hand out. Taxis are obliged to take payments by cash or card within the car but if you’re paying by card, no harm to let the driver know when you get in. Our team are happy to organise taxis on your behalf to the airport or anywhere else – just stop at reception and chat to us.
Parking
Driving is the least favourable way to get around Dublin. Between high parking charges, confusing one-way systems and cars banned from many streets, we always encourage guests to walk or use public transport wherever possible. If you’re driving to Ashling Hotel, we do have discounted parking available for the duration of your stay. Parking is on a first come first served basis.
