Public Transport Dublin

Table of Contents

For a capital city, Dublin is easy to get around – you’ll find all the best attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs in a compact area. Staying in the Ashling Hotel makes life simple – you have every form of public transport right on your doorstep. From trains, trams and taxis to buses and bikes, we’ve put together a transport guide to help you make the most of your stay and quickly get where you want to go.

Leap Card

The Leap Card is like your key to the city. It works on nearly every type of public transport, saves you up to 30% on trips and means you never have to worry about having correct change. Another great thing about the Leap Card is that, for a single fare, you can transfer between Dublin Bus, Luas, DART, commuter rail and Go-Ahead Ireland services for 90 minutes with no extra charge (Dublin City Zone). You can even use it to travel to and from the Airport.

You can buy a ‘Leap Visitor Card’ at Dublin Airport and in most convenience stores.

Leap Card Prices (2025)

1 day (24 hours) – €8

3 days (72 hours) – €18

7 days (168 hours) – €24

LUAS Tram

The Luas (Red Line) gets you direcy to the city centre in a matter of minutes. The tram goes right past our front door and stops within sight of us at Heuston Station and Museum. Hop off at Jervis to browse the shops and explore our Italian Quarter, or jump off at Abbey Street to visit the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre and the iconic Spire. At Abbey Street you can switch to the southbound Green Line and head for landmarks like Trinity College and St Stephen’s Green and the designer stores of Grafton Street.

Leap cards are accepted on all Luas trams – remember to tap on and off!

Dublin Bus

Four Dublin Bus routes (25a/25b/66/67) connect Ashling Hotel to Merrion Square via the city centre. Hop off anywhere along the way and you’ll find something worth exploring. Merrion Square is a beautiful park at the heart of Georgian Dublin – check out the Oscar Wilde statue before taking in the National Gallery of Ireland.

Leap cards are accepted on Dublin Bus. Otherwise, the standard fare to the city centre is €2 (coins only).

Train

Heuston Intercity Railway Station is a 2-minute walk from our front door and has train services that connect Dublin with the rest of Ireland. Fancy a day trip outside of Dublin? Trains from Heuston serve cities like Cork, Galway and Limerick and many places in between.

Buy tickets at Heuston Station or on the Irish Rail website.

Hop on Hop off Tours

Many of our guests recommend the Hop on Hop off bus tour. The tour bus passes all of Dublin’s premier attractions including the Guinness Storehouse, Jameson Distillery and Kilmainham Goal. Catch the bus on Parkgate Street right beside the hotel and explore all that Dublin has to offer. Commentary on board is delivered in 8 languages (English, Spanish, Cantonese, German, Italian, French, Russian, and Japanese). Buy tickets from our Front Desk team.

From Dublin Airport

Getting to Ashling Hotel from Dublin Airport couldn’t be easier! The Dublin Express 782 runs from Dublin Airport to Heuston Station, a 2 minute walk from our front door. Services run every 15-20 minutes and tickets cost €9 single and €12 return. Depending on traffic, the journey should take between 45 mins and 1 hour.

Parking

In a busy city like Dublin, parking can be hard to find. Secure parking is an even bigger luxury. Ashling Hotel has you covered with our multi-storey onsite car park. Better still, you get a special overnight rate when you stay with us.

As a guest, you can park for 24 hours for €18. Non-residents pay €4.00 per hour, up to a maximum of €23.50 per day.
