Things to do in Dublin that won’t cost a cent

Dublin has so many great things to do and many are free of charge to the general public. At the Ashling Hotel, we’ve put together a list of things to do in Dublin that won’t cost you a cent!

National Botanic Gardens

Located in Glasnevin, Dublin 11, and are only 3km from Dublin City Centre. The National Botanic Gardens is the perfect attraction for people that take an interest in botany and nature. Take a walk around the gardens and witness the collection of over 300 plant species from all over the world. The gardens are well known for their efforts to protect and conserve the species and their historic glasshouses. Take the Luas tram right outside the hotel into the City Centre and then a short journey on Dublin Bus (83/83a/13/9 routes) to the gardens. The National Botanic Gardens is open 7 days a week.

National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts and History Museum (Collins Barracks)

Right beside our hotel, a matter of footsteps away from our front door. This museum is ideal for Irish history enthusiasts and has exhibitions on display with crafts, design, interiors and furniture, silverware, accessories and jewellery from many years ago in Ireland. There is also an exhibit labelled ‘Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising’. This display was set up in 2016 to remember the events that took place in Ireland 100 years ago and explores the background of the 1916 Rising with the aim to educate more people on the 1916 Rising. The museum is open 7 days a week and is free of charge.

The Irish National War Memorial Garden

Located in Islandbridge and only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The War Memorial is dedicated to the memory of the 49,400 Irish soldiers who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914–1918. The garden is one of the most famous memorial gardens in Europe and is also known for its architectural interest and beauty as well as the historic aspect. Guests staying at the Ashling hotel should seize the opportunity to take the trip over to see the gardens. The Irish National War Memorial Garden is open to the public 7 days a week and won’t cost you a cent!


The National Gallery of Ireland

Located in the heart of Georgian Dublin, the gallery is extremely appealing for individuals with an interest in art. The exhibition’s on display show collections, descriptions and narratives about art and society and there will be many different exhibits on display throughout the year. Head down to the gallery and check out the art, it’s open 7 days a week.

Phoenix Park

A walk around Phoenix Park is an ideal day out for everybody, especially families with kids. Bike tours, Segway tours are just some of things going on in the park daily. Phoenix Park is a 5 minute walk from the Ashling Hotel, no public transport needed. Admission to the park is free, however, there is a small charge for bike and Segway hire. Áras An Uachtaráin is located in Phoenix Park, it is the official residence of the President of Ireland and definitely worth checking out. Tours of Áras An Uachtaráin take place almost every Saturday and are free of charge.

Dublin Days Out, Dreamy Nights In

Here at the Ashling Hotel, we know our guests don’t just come to see us, but for many reasons, one of which is exploring our wonderful city of Dublin.

Dublin has a wealth of great things to do with famous visitor attractions such as the Guinness Store house, Phoenix Park and Temple Bar all just a within 5 kilometres of the Ashling Hotel. Further afield, a twenty-minute journey will take you to the coastal towns of Howth and Dun Laoghaire, perfect for a fun day out. We have a ‘Take Out’ range of food and drink for our guests who were heading off for their ‘Day Out’ and may not have time to stop for lunch or just want something to snack on.

Then we have ‘Dreamy Nights In’ relating to all the things that one can do at the Ashling Hotel – relax in our Iveagh Bar with a cocktail or craft beer, dine in our Chesterfields Restaurant, log into our free Wifi and surf the net, watch television from under your duvet or have Room Service. Did you know that Ashling is the Irish for dream?

Our freshly prepared Take Out range of food and drink is available from Chesterfields Restaurant throughout the day. Room service menu is available from 4-9.30 pm and pizzas are on hand 24 hours a day.
