Kilmainham Gaol Hotels
Kilmainham Gaol, located in Dublin 8, opened as a museum in the 1980’s and is run by the Office of Public Works (O.P.W.). It was built in 1796, operating as a jail until 1924, and playing an important role in the history of the Irish Free State. Numerous prisoners were held behind its bars during the campaign for Irish Independence, including Charles Stewart Parnell and Robert Emmet.
The attraction is open daily from April to September, from 9:30 to 18:00. From October to March, it is open Monday to Saturday, from 9:30 to 17:30 and Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00.
Guided tours of the Gaol are available. Groups should be booked in advance.
