Public Transport – Getting around Dublin

Public Transport – Getting around Dublin

Here at the Ashling Hotel, Dublin we are very fortunate to have many public transport options right on our doorstep.  Buses, trains and trams are all just a 2 minute walk away from our front door. To help you plan your trip to Dublin we’ve put together this quick public transport guide so you can make the most of your visit.

Leap Card

First things first, we recommend that you buy a ‘Leap Visitor Card’. It’s a contactless smart card that can be used on the majority of transport services in Dublin, it makes getting around easy and saves worrying about having the correct change! Cards are available to buy here or from most newsagents in the city.

The Leap Visitor Card Prices:

1 day (24 hours) – €10.00

3 days (72 hours) – €19.50

7 days (168 hours) – €40.00

The LUAS Tram (Red Line) goes right past our front door and will bring you straight into the city centre in a matter of minutes. If shopping is your thing, get off at Jervis Shopping Centre and browse the shops or hop off on Abbey Street to visit the GPO Witness History Visitor Centre or take a few snaps of the iconic Spire, a 121m high pin-like, stainless steel monument located in the middle of Dublin’s famous O’Connell Street that commemorates the 1916 Rising (A must see!). Leap cards are accepted at all LUAS Tram stops across the city.

Dublin Bus

There are 4 Dublin bus routes (25a/25b/66/67) close to the Ashling Hotel that run to Merrion Square through the city centre. Hop off anywhere in the city centre and explore or get off at Merrion Square, the heart of Georgian Dublin and check out the Oscar Wilde statue and visit the museums or take a short walk over to St. Stephens Green Park and hit the boutique shops on Grafton Street. Leap cards are accepted on Dublin Bus.

Heuston Intercity Railway Station is a 2-minute walk from our front door and has train services that connect Dublin with the rest of Ireland. Train’s from Heuston Station serve cities like Cork, Galway, Limerick and many places in between. If you would like to go on a day trip, train tickets can be purchased in Heuston Station or online.

Hop on Hop off Tours

Many of our guests recommend the Hop on Hop off bus tour. The tour bus passes all of Dublin’s premier attractions including the Guinness Storehouse, Jameson Distillery and Kilmainham Goal. Catch the bus on Parkgate Street right beside the hotel and explore all that Dublin has to offer. Commentary on board is delivered in 8 languages (English, Spanish, Cantonese, German, Italian, French, Russian, and Japanese). Tickets can be purchased from our Front Desk Team at reception.

From Dublin Airport

Getting to the Ashling Hotel from Dublin Airport couldn’t be easier! The 747 Airlink Bus runs between Dublin Airport to Heuston Station which is just a 2 minute walk from our front door. Services run every 15-20 minutes and tickets cost €7 single and €12 return. The journey can take up to 1 hour depending on traffic levels in the city but don’t worry, you’ll be with us in no time!
